2012-2013 Visiting Scholar begins work at Southwestern

Kevin Minister is the new Institute for Discipleship Visiting Scholar in residence, and has begun his work at the college. Minster is working toward a Ph.D. in religious studies at Southern Methodist University. He was awarded the Schubert M. Ogden Fellowship for Academic Excellence in the Theology and has published in the New Interpreter’s Theological Companion to the Lectionary. Institute for Discipleship Developing Youth Disciple Online

(from sckans.edu) The Institute for Discipleship (IFD) at Southwestern College has been awarded $10,000 from the Moody Memorial Permanent Endowment Fund in Galveston, Texas, for the development of Youth Disciple Online (YDO). “I am so please to have the support of the folks at Moody,” says Steve Wilke, executive director of the IFD. According to Wilke, this project will provide youth the opportunity to study and discuss the scriptures totally online. Gone will be some of the challenges due to schedules and transportation. SC Students Explore Ministry at Exploration 2011

via Southwestern College news Southwestern College campus minister Ashlee Alley recently accompanied several students to St. Louis to participate in Exploration 2011. Exploration 2011 is an event organized by the United Methodist Church with the goal of bringing younger people to the pulpit. During two days of workshops, prayer, worship, and small-group meetings, the denomination hopes to help some of the 18- to 26-year-olds in attendance determine whether their future career path will lead to a life in the ministry. Center for Youth Ministry Excellence Headquarters to Southwestern College

The headquarters for the Center for Youth Ministry Excellence have been relocated to Southwestern College, and the CYMX now is working in cooperation with the Institute for Discipleship. During SC's fall Board of Trustees meeting Oct. 7, Charles Harrison, chief executive officer of CYMX, was introduced and the new partnership was formalized.
